Counting the days until reunion. And July 10, 2001. I will be 62 on that day and plan to retire. Will stop and see old Dean, when traveling through Illinois, if he will show me where to catch the big ones.

I had signed on your homepage back in 1997 and you have done a great job of improving it, I was especially interested in reading about the three Connie's that crashed, I left the 961 in Jan 64 for Hancock Field, after flying as an Radar Operater on 55-136 many times during 1961 and 64, and was a friend of TSgt Gilbert Armstrong. Served in 961st as RO from Jul 55 to Mar 59. ACs Bob Bostick, Ken Wilgus, Frank Logwin, Emil Busch. Served in 964th as pilot and aircraft commander from Nov 60 to Jan 65. "C" Flight under Major Fran O'Hop. Great website. A lot of familiar names of old friends and colleagues. Many people have mentioned "555" now on display at the Air Force museum. One night in 1964, the Squadron Commander, Sam Tidwell, was my copilot. During briefing I mentioned I had never completed a mission in "Triple Nickel". Always aborted. He commented "that is not a good attitude". I was glad, when later in the mission, he was in the seat when we blew a PRT. Great memories from a long time ago.

Was on last mission on AC 555, had smoke from generator fire, left aircraft at end of runway. Last time I saw the the aircraft a tug was trying to pull it away. We had B.Gen. on board, he wanted his name in 781. (last Combat Mission AC 555. Howard

Late-come to Connies: You guys were pulling out of Korat by the time I qualified, but I carried on with Kef, served with the 79th in Homesead, and was one of the few who accompanied Col. West to Tinker in 1978. Helped established Det One, NORAD and left in in 1982 to Germany, back to Tinker in 1985, flew as NORAD Mission Director Tech until retiring in 1991. I'm here in Oklahoma and would love to correspond with some old Connie Pukes. Question: Who has the specs on constructing "The Cannon?" (Beer cans, forming a barrel and using lighter fluid to ignite, for a "Fantastic BOOM") Remember the barracks at Kef?, What a time, eh? Somebody please write!!

I flew the Connie at Otis from '59 to '69 as a Pilot/Instructor Pilot/Weapons Controller and logged over 4000 hours. I was in the 962nd AEW&C squadron, 551st Wing, by far the best squadron in the system!!!!(smile). I visit the Connie here in the McClellan Museum quite frequently. It's an old Navy bird that was flown in from Tuscon by then Capt. Gerry Hoff (who was stationed at Travis). I remember it taxiing in and losing an engine as it approached the ramp because the Flight engineer let it load up. That engine has never been started again. It is a bit disheartening to see the old bird sit there and get weather beaten. The Instrument panel has a bunch of instruments missing. I guess the edict went out to remove all instruments that had phosphorescence because of ??radioactiviy??.... WOW! Great site. It brings back good memories.

Was with the 552 EMS and 510 FTD at McClellan AFB from Aug 1955 thru Oct 1964. Then with the 204 FTD at Otis AFB until May 1965 when i parted company with the Active AF. Some of the best times I had in the military were with the 552nd and especially the 510th. After seeing this site I was flodded with nostalgia about things that happened. One thing that came to mind was PCU ---- This SAC invention was calculated to "improve" the physical well being of crew members. After a 18 hour day of briefing, pre-flight, flying, post flight and debreifing, crews were herded into a bus, taken to the gym and directed to participate in exercise, handball, saunas, etc. When all they really wanted was a bed.

I served at Otis from Dec.69 to Aug. 70. I watched as the last Connies left and the B-57 unit I was assigned to moved in. I made the comment that I was glad I wouldn't be working on the Connies. 8 months later I was on my way to Korat and the 553 AMS. Funny how fate works.

I served as Asst. Base Communications Officer at Otis from 10/65 to 10/67. This web site is quite nostalgic.
