Comments Such fun to see the old pictures. Has it really been that long since we were all young and carefree? It was such a great time to grow up in a safe environment. Too bad those days are nonexistant now.

Comments What other community is so special that after 56 years, the people would be so excited about renewing friendships? I am so proud and blessed to have had the experience of growing up in such a great place.

Comments Now, this brings back alot of great memories! Great Idea and thanks for sending the link. I haven't been in Bynum since Mother moved in late 1999 and was none too happy about leaving. It was her life as she had lived in Bynum since May 1954. It was home to her. It was also home to me and I had alot of friends that throught the years I have lost contact with. Thank goodness for Facebook. If you are on Facebook send me a link. I just got in contact with Judy Jennings who was part of the Bynum Gang! Let me hear from you

Comments I was so very glad to hear from Shelia Slaten, after all these years. I guess some of the best and some of the worst years of my life were spent in Bynum, Al. The memories have been flooding my mind since the phone call. Names, places and things, faces. BoyA! What a trip down memory lane. I hope to hear from a lot of you. Judy

Comments Bynum was a great place to grow up. Living in Canada in the Spring and Summer and in Georgia in the Fall and Winter is great. But growing up in Bynum were the best years of my childhood. Mr Walker as Santa. So many stories so many adventures. What our kids and grandkids have missed from not growing up in such a safe and wonderful place.

Comments Gary, first of all let me thank you for providing us with this wonderfully exciting website. I have so many memories of growing up in Bynum that it would take a book to compile them all. As the saying goes "It takes a village to raise a child". We had the village and we had the children, and it was ALL wonderful. If you didn't have the opportunity of growing up in Bynum - you missed a lot. Good to read the thoughts of each and everyone of you. God has really blessed us! Let's pray for each other during these times of change. Love to each of you.

Comments We moved to Bynum in 1954. We lived in Alan Homes. We lived in a Cul de sac and Judy Lane lived across the street from us. Sandra Braxton lived behind us. My Dad, Bud Sims worked at the Depot. My grandparents were Bertie (he was a guard at the Depot) & Thelma Shaddix, they lived in apartment 38 in Desoto Manner. Their children were Martha (my Mom), RJ, Hugo, Billie Bert and Erma Joye. I graduated from Oxford High in 1961. I will try to go thru my pictures and see what I can find. I live in Saraland, AL now and we plan to move to Cullman County in the next year or so. Will go thru my old pics and see what I can find.

Comments Guess I wasn't paying attention to the form. Thought it read County instead of Country, oh, well, guess that's what happens when you get old and most of all when you don't pay attention to what you are reading.

Comments I have lived in the Mobile area since 1975. I have four children and seven grandchildren. My husband Jim died in 1992. I work for Mobile County at the Revenue Commissioner's office. Everything I ever really needed to know, I learned at Bynum Elementary School. I wish we could raise our children in a place like that today.

Comments We sent a note to the Community News at the Anniston Star, letting people know about this web site. They ran it in "News we can use" last week and are going to run it this week. They, hopefully, are going to run my story on the home page, the introduction. This can get the news out. Debbie Reaves at the Star checked out the web site and loved it. If everyone would E mail all the Bynum kids they know, that would be great. Love all of you and miss those days. I agree with Janice Grant Barker that it would be wonderful if children nowadays could grow up in such a community.

Comments I enjoyed visiting the site. It brought back lots of memories. I always loved Mr. Canant. I remember his coveralls and his grapevines! I grew up in Bynum, in a house my Daddy built in 1953 on property his parents bought in the 1930's. My grandparents lived there until their deaths, and my Daddy died earlier this year. My mother still lives in our homeplace. I attended Bynum School from 1960-1966, then went on to Wellborn High School. I moved from Bynum to West Anniston in 1972 when I married Larry Robertson. We moved back to Bynum in 1977, and lived there until 1990, when my parents moved back into the homeplace. I see that most of the site is devoted to the kids whose parents worked at the Depot. Will it be expanded to include the history of Bynum, which was a thriving community before the Depot was established? If so, I have tons of information on how Bynum was established, and the early families who settled there. Did you know Bynum was founded by Elijah Bynum, who was instrumental in getting the railroad to come

Comments Gary, even though age wise I was of the next decade, I have so enjoyed Bynumkids. Don would have loved it, his memory was so much better than mine. I do have some memories & photos I can share as soon as I can go thru some photos. Don & I have three sons and were always sharing with them what a special place Bynum was for children to be children. My cousin Sandy loved to spend her summers in Alabama and became good friends with some of the girls (Becky Street especially) and dated some of you guys. She ate her first banana and pineapple sandwiches the first summer she spent down here.

Comments I enjoyed viewing Growing Up in Bynum. Two ladies in Bynum Women, which I'm sure by now you have been told. Center two are Mildred Crocket and Glianca McKindree. I'm not sure I spelled her name correctly
