Comments Rick, you are not only wise and trusting, you have a lovely and soothing voice. It's unfortunate for the world of radio broadcasting that success in commercial real estate took precedence.

Comments Hi Rick! This is great stuff! Thanks so much for sharing it with me! Haven't listened to all of it yet, but I'm gonna download the rest of 'em into my iPod so I can listen as I'm out doing my exercise walk later today. The KDWB stuff is especially good to hear. I grew up in Apple Valley which as you know was right in 630's SW null towards Ames, IA. The daytime signal was weak and the nighttime signal was non-existent down here. (I actually listened to "American Top 40" on KOIL/Omaha because it was easier to hear than KDWB at night.) So, I didn't hear much of KDWB until they got the FM in 9/76. (And then, I didn't listen out of protest...I HATED them for "taking over" U-100 which was by far my favorite station.) Speaking of U-100, there's another site with lots of airchecks from that station. www.radiotapes.com Rob Shewood picks up 4 months later by flipping WYOO to Top 40 live at the MN State Fair. Also some very rare clips...like KDWB at midnight, right after U-100 signed off-the-air. "And they j

Comments Rick, It was great to hear "Bill Lake" on your website. Carl was my all-time fave on CCO-FM. I worked with him there from 78-82, and it is the same guy you've tracked to Iowa (although I'm not sure if he's in radio anymore). I had never heard audio of him on U100 until today. Carl would occasionally poke fun of the radio name he had to use at U100. Odd story: in 82 I briefly worked at the old WAYL/KKSS in the old U100 building. Hidden in the basement was an old 45 rack, converted to a mailbox device for jocks...on the bottom row was a faded label reading "Bill Lake." Pat

Comments Rick: We must have just missed each other. You left Brown in 1972...I started Brown in October of that year...and I'm still here. Coming up on 34 years. Thanks for the additional air-checks on your site. I've been to the other sites you link to and truly enjoy them. Listening to some of the Twin Cities great jocks dating all the way back to KDWB in the 60's is just plain fun. So are the old U-100 air checks. I don't have any of those and I certainly wouldn't let anyone listen to one of my old ones even though I just worked part time in the Cities. Would really like to hear a little more Don Vogel, the round mound of sound when he was at KSTP-AM. Thanks for your website. It's fun! Mike Kronforst

Comments Rick: Just took a look at the photos you took at the Brown College 60th Anniversary on Saturday, September 16th. For anyone who didn't attend, they should bring back some memories and let graduates from years past get a glimpse of what Brown looks like today. Thanks for posting them. The day wasn't long enough. I had a chance to see students I hadn't seen in 10, 20, 30 years and instructors from years past. So glad you could attend.

Comments Hello Rick, just wanted to drop you a note of thanks for your KTCR-FM air checks and other Twin Cities radio info on your site. I attended NEI from 1977 to 1980 and I rented an apt. just a half a block away from the school. One winter night I remember walking by the school in the evening hours and I helped a KTCR DJ get his Mustang out of the snow in the alley between the school and the fire station, was that you? This would have been late December of ’77 or early ’78. KTCR was one of my favorite stations while I was growing up in rural Minnesota and I still have all my reel to reel recordings of KTCR and many other area radio and TV radio audio recordings, just don’t know who all is on them. I was saddened to find out NEI is no longer around, they seem to have been taken over by Dunwoody. Kevin

Comments I listened to your air check. That was great and brought back good memories of the old days. Remember when we actually had to take our own meter readings? It is amazing how much we have in common. How many people have Wranglers, old satin radio station jackets AND a knowledge of the difference between rentable and useable factors? Best Steve P.

Comments Rick:Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much I enjoy your wedsite. I lived in the Twin Cities until I waqs 12 and listened continually to WDGY and KDWB. (never thought I would ever hear Rob Sherwood again). I spent 18 years in broadcasting in Montana. I would very much like to hear a Jimmy Reed and Johnny Canton aircheck, any chance? Mike M. Thanks again for the great job!!!!

Comments Thanks for a great Web site! Rob Sherwood is the reason I got into radio in the first place, back in 1980 after graduating from Brown Institute. Mike Kronforst helped keep me in radio after I graduated and up until I left Minnesota to come to Colorado. Now, aside from working for CBS Radio here in Denver, I also teach broadcasting at the Ohio Center for Broadcasting's Colorado campus. Thanks again, Rick!

Comments Great site, I grew up on Twin Cities AM and FM Radio. My Uncle is Tom Wynn aka WDGY, KRSI, WLOL and KFGO (Fargo) I hung out at Wee Gee as a kid growing up in Bloomington and used to sit on Toms lap as a kid at KRSI and WDGY while he was on the air. I used to pull carts and 45's for him as well as lots of the Jocks at WDGY while I was in JR high. Love your site. I have listened to most of your air checks...What awesome memories! Thank you, Scott Wynn Greensboro, NC
