Comments Retired from the College of Agriculture several years ago. Have been involved in Quarter horses off and on--not now. I go to the Brocton show periodically, and grow increasingly concerned the people just have almost no appreciation ofor the role draft horses played in this country's develop,ment--and their role in today's world. If anyone else cares, I'd love to get with them to talk about developing something (I was an agricultural communicator by profession, and head of the Office of Agricultural Communication where I worked for 43 years.) I don' know exactly what I would like to do--but somebody closer to the industry might have ideas and need cheap help. I'd be interested.

Comments Hi, Phil! You taught my late hubby & I how to harness, hitch up & drive a cart & a team! You also helped us buy our first pair of Clydes (whom we registered as a pair) from The Murrays: Double A Lou (mare) & her gelding brother, Double A Prince. This was in 1987! Lucy gave us many gorgeous offspring! As a team, they were in so many parades I’ve lost count! The best advice you EVER gave us was to seriously consider purchasing a mare who was already in foal from Gerald Lewis at the annual Clyde Sale in ‘88. We did & she presented us with a most handsome, smart & sweet colt who became our herd sire: EssenJay Louis Supreme! Sadly, John passed in 2009 & so the horses & farm have also passed into history. However, I frequently see our last “baby” EssenJay Liberty Bell as a dear friend purchased her & lives but 15 minutes from me! Today, our adult grandchildren flock to local events to see the Budweiser 8-up whenever they’re within a hundred miles or so as they recall growing up with Clydes! Thank you for getting us started & providing so m

Comments Phil, I was fortunate to be managing editor of The Evener magazine as a mere child--23 years old. And I came to you and Carla's home for a horsemanship school in 1984. I recently went to Montana, passing by several places I'd been in my early 20s for The Evener. It prompted me to look through old magazines and do some googling. Fun to review this time in my life. I remember being so impressed with you and Carla's family orientation. Hope you are doing well at this point in life.
