Comments Hello to All who ever attended CNC! This is a really big year for my husband and me. My Newport News High School 50 year reunion is being held the same weekend as our 46th wedding anniversary. I am not a great talker or social butterfly like Fred, my husband, but I am looking forward to this high school reunion and now this Christopher Newport College reunion. I went the first year it opened, and I am proud to be a part of the Founding Group of Students. I had worked with Arnett Stinson in the library at NNHS and I was her student assistant at CNC. I have wonderful memories of those days and I think of her often and all she taught me. She and Mrs. Emily Nelson prepared me for my 23 years as librarian at Orcutt Baptist School, where I absolutely loved what I did and the ministry I had with God's precious children. I adore children. We have three adorable and wonderful grandchildren, Payton 7, Reed who will be 3 on June 5th and little Mays who will be 1 on July 24th. One of my greatest passions is reading to these children who

Comments Greetings from beautiful Brevard, NC in western NC. Brevard is the county seat for Transylvania County and has at least 250 waterfalls. That's enough to keep any avid hiker happy. I'm looking forward to coming to the reunion in September!

Comments I remember my first day at CNC like it was yesterday, even though it was in 1965. It was there that I met my husband, Michael, who started there in September 1964. (Sadly, he passed away in 1990.) We had one child, David, and now I'm the proud grandmother of a sweet six-month old girl! Looking at all the pictures brings such fond memories of "Christy New" so I am definitely planning to attend the reunion. I'm looking forward to seeing all my old friends. Where did the time go?

Comments I remember that old building in 1961 and the first year students who were the charter members of what is now one of the finest educational institutions in the country. I don’t think any of us at that time could envision what has happened today. We were just trying to survive Barry Woods, Robert Usrey, Mssers. Greene, Smith, Tanner and Eggleston. Some of my fondest memories were of the students and some of the unique ways we used to have a good time; the bowling parties, after school pizza at Mama De Angelo’s and of course the quick run to What a Burger during lunch. I also met a beautiful girl, Doris McCauley who transferred in the second semester and ultimately became my wife of 47 years. I don't want to leave out Nancy Ramsuer and Dean Cunningham who made quite an impression on this Sophomore. I am looking forward to seeing all of you first year veterans again and those who followed us.

Comments Hi I began my time at CNC in 1971 but didn't graduate until 1976. What a time in my life and education that was! I remember so many people from that time. I have vivid mental images of the faculty and students from back then. What an excellent education we received and the life experiences were almost over whelming. Valuble people, valuable memories during a period which was the best of times and the worst of times.

Comments Former Classmates and Friends, We owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Jane and the First Decaders Reunion committee for making this "coming home" a reality. I have been in Pastoral ministry for the last forty two years in Indiana and Virginia. Currently, I am in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa. I work through a ministry we formed some years ago, CongoMission. We do clean water projects. For the last five years, we have partnered with the mission village of Kikongo to aid a forgotten mission hospital. To date we have reconstructed the primary water system and brought clean, running water to a hospital that had no water. We have just completed the installation of solar panels on all wards of the hospital. The hospital had no lights. Emergency C-section and child births were done with a fkash light and one flourescent light. The stories are legion and the stuff of a lifetime. I will not return before your reunion. I pray your time together will be one of sharing good memories of "yesterday" and the journey that has

Comments Norman and I can't wait to see everyone! I'm bringing my scrapbook from the first 2 yrs of the Dramatic Workshop ('65-'66) & Coach Weinstein's from the first 2 of the Track Team! Find our table for some great memories! Coach will be there on Fri. We hope to have Track, Football and Drama veterans seek us out for some old stories–some of which may be true and some, well, who would know after all this time? Many thanks to Miss Marple, Barry Wood and Rita Hubbard for finding all the clues, resurrecting the 'Memories' and reminding the world that, were it not for us 'First Decaders,' CNU would not exist today. Well done one and all!!

Comments Unfortunately, I will not be attending the reunion this time. For those who do attend, please post pictures. I do have fond memories of CNC. I can remember the deadlines for the yearbook submissions and working as a biology lab assistant. I remember World History quiz sessions on Saturday mornings (who came up with that idea?) and writing weekly papers for Mr. Woods. (as a side note here, I taught his son 8th grade science in Hampton) and dissecting in Mrs. Hunter's anatomy class. (another side note... I taught with Georgia at Bethel high school) But most of all, I remember the wonderful people I met while attending the college. Although I have not seen most in decades, I have often wondered where people were and what they were doing. I can not thank Jane Chambers enough for all of the work she has done. I have been able to reconnect via facebook with several people. My heart smiles when I think of those two years of my life spent at CNC. .. so many years ago!

Comments I was a member of the first class that started in 1961. I was a great experience and it will be something I will always remember. I think a number of us who attended classes in that old school building felt this would someday become a significant academic institution. I really want to recognize and thank the initial faculty and staff that helped make Christopher Newport College a reality.

Comments Recalling my years at CNC brings me such joy. I was privileged to meet and become friends with some extremely awesome people while there, many of whom continue to be active in my life. I remember feeling so excited about being a part of this college community. It was a pleasure to meet and hang out with friends in the lounge, to watch some of the athletes perform, to walk through the beautiful woods surrounding the college with special friends, to sit outside under a tree or on a bench while reading or completing a class assignment…..and the list goes on and on. I never tire of the memories, which have now become my most precious treasure. My husband and I are both retired from our careers and are enjoying every minute of every day here on the coast of North Carolina. We live just steps outside of Beaufort, which has been designated one of the “Coolest Small Towns” in the U.S. Life is good, but I will never stop missing the special people I met at CNC. You know who you are.

Comments I attended CNC from 1962 to 1964 and received an AA degree. I transferred to W&M where I learned that I was needed more in the US Army (flunked out). After serving nearly three years, one of which was in my favorite tropical paradise (Republic of Vietnam), I returned to Virginia and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Old Dominion College (now University). I joined the Department of Veterans Affairs in Philadelphia, PA as a veterans representative and later transferred to the VA office in New York City where I worked in VA hospitals and later as the Education Liaison with the STate of New York. I married Diane Lynn Reid (BS, Kent State University '70) in 1971, and we produced two of the lovliest girls in the world Pamela Lynn Bolanis Wise BA,W&M '97 and Kathleen Gayle Caruso (University of Rochester '99) I have two handsome grandsons, Peter Kent Bolanis and Henry Law Bolanis, and a grandaughter, Virginia Byrd Wise. Diane and I raised our two daughters in the Chicago suburbs (Glen Ellyn) while I w

Comments Love the site, been here a couple times. Couldn't find a link to contact the webmaster, so I'll post it here. On this page: http://www.cncfirstdecaders6171.com/schoolpictures/19701971.html There is a picture near the top with a caption that says "Ratcliffe Hall." That is actually a picture of the backside of the Library. I've seen this error a lot, you're not the first. The original source, wherever it is, must be wrongly labelled. Hope that helps!
