Comments Would you mind if I used these letters as a source for an essay in English 112? I need the class to become a Nurse and I have really found so much in common with reading the letters to Maxie and reading the letters I get from my husband who is in Afghanistan now, for the second time. He was in Iraq once too. I think it's funny how things seem to have not changed since the war then and the wars now, I guess war is war. Glad there is so much love and honesty in those letters. I think that it is what gets each person by, the soldier and the wife. Thanks.

Comments I lost my brother over in Nam back in 68 and to this day it is still very hard to imagine all that he went through. Recently after posting a memo on the Virtual Wall website I had one of his Sgt. contact me about how my brother had died. All I could feel was my throat closing up and thinking my heart was going to explode. What was these guys doing contacting me afer 38 years. This was so difficult, but I felt as if maybe they needed a healing in their hearts for some reason or another. His death was by mine explosion. Not sure why I am writing this, but I know from all of his belongings and the readings that Vietnam was a horrible war for our boys. Words probably couldn't decribe the hurt and pain that each one of the soldiers felt. Just came across the website you started and am looking forward to reading some of the letters. So glad to hear that you made it home to your soul-mate. Blessings for your family always.

Comments I grew up in the D.C. area and have never recovered from the deep sense of honor and gratitude that was imparted to me from visiting all the memorials and cemeteries. I really wish I could go back and visit. I know I have at least one uncle who's name is on the wall; but, I would shed at least one tear for each name listed. My heart still breaks at the thought of what so many people did for this country and her people. Thank you for taking the time to share your story and serve this nation. I am honored to be able to read your charished words. God bless!

Comments This is for my Dad, David James. He's never talked much about this time in his life but I do know he was a medic in the Navy during Vietnam. He is my hero.

Comments Thank you for your service to this country. I had family there too. My dad and father in law were WWII vets and my son in law was a medic with the 2nd ACR out of Ft. Polk - he spent 13 mos. in Baghdad and thank the good Lord, he came home to us - but not without invisible scars or war. May God bless you and your family and I salute what you have done here - letting us into your lives. Hopefully nobody will forget this time.

Comments alternate email: babswillen@bellsouth.net (only on phone) Watching Ken Burns series on VN on PBS; didn't know how long the conflict was going on before US actually entered with troops. I wish he would have consulted you (maybe he did & I just haven't seen your credits) but your input would be invaluable. You deserve credit for your work and service and that as live Taps playing Marine for military funerals. Babs 561-5710-2251

Comments Wonderful website...Thank you! It is sad for me to say that while Vietnam was raging on I was more interested in what was going on at the moment. I was old enough to know, yet chose to stick my head in the sand. I am so sorry for what all of you have gone through for people who, like me, (at the time) didn't care. Now we move into the year of 2006....I have lost 5 young men that I have known in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflict. I know many others that are suffering from PTSD and physical injuries. My heart and prayers are with them and all the families who have sons, daughters, husbands, wives, spouses over there. May God be with you all. Today I care...alot... I wish I had the magic answer, Ofcourse I don't. Thank you all for fighting for my freedom. Bless you Candy

Comments Thank you so much for opening your lives and sharing with us. I am a former solider of the 3AD (8 years) and a wife (18 years) of a career soldier currently serving in Iraq. I treasure each letter I receive and every email that is sent. I am thankful for your service and so appreciative of everything you and all the soldiers went through during Nam and only wish that we could have re-written history to where you were treated with dignity and respect upon your return to US shores. I have enjoyed reading each of your letters and even cried on a few. May God always bless you, Maxie and your son.

Comments Thank you for sharing your letters. I do not remember this war - as I was born after it was over. But I remember two of my Uncles served, but they never shared any stories with me - actually they never spoke of the war. My oldest brother just retired from the AF. He served three tours in Iraq. I thank GOD that he made it home safe, and is now out of the military. My cousin in going back for his second tour next month - and my prayers are with him and all the military men and women serving our country. Thank you for serving so my boys can be raised in a FREE AMERICA. God Bless
