Comments hi - I just finished your book this evening. What a page turner adn an eye-opener. I was brought to tears at the last chapter when you wrote that you became a born-again Christian. Amen - I praise God for this! Thank you for sharing your story and the life that you once lived. I have been curious about this lifestyle for many years and you shed a lot of light on it as well as on this website. I am so glad that you were led to Hector. May you and your family be blessed. In Him AC

Comments Thank you so much for your book "Shattered Dreams", which I read this summer. I have passed it on to friends, who love it too. You have had a vry difficullt life, but I praise the Lord because He never gives His children a bigger burden than they can carry, so you must be a very strong person. Your book gave me an interesting insight into what being a Mormon means. May the Lord continue to enlighten conscientious people like you. God bless you.

Comments Irene, Your book was incredible, I couldn't believe it. I felt like I was in the book the way you described it. I read it every night before bed and last night I fell asleep reading...I woke up from a dream this morning and I was actually in a scene from your book. It was too real for me, I can't imagine how you survived those times! God Bless you for all you endured to bring yourself and your children home to the Lord. I look forward to meeting you some day!

Comments Irene, I am a LDS woman who has often wondered about polygamy. In your book your life as a polygamist wife was written in such a captivating way. I kept having to remind myself that it wasn't fiction. I had never considered the heart ache, lost love, lonliness, and poverty so many women in plural marriages experience(d). It broke my heart. Verlan did seem like a man who truly tried to follow what he thought was God's will. There was just never any way he could have met the needs of each of you. Your book made me cry, but even better it made me laugh. How you sustained your sense of humor tickled and amazed me. You are full of life and I am so glad polygamy was not able to extinguish that out of you. I like to fancy myself a stong woman, but I must admit I am not. Your book was incrediable. You have inspired me to be a better me, wife, mother, sister, friend and to not complain because I've got it good. I vow to laugh more and to love more deeply. Thank you for sharing. ~Amy

Comments Irene your book is an inspiration. I found the book to be wonderfully written and was in awe the struggles you have endured. Whatever happened to Glen did you ever want to find out? Thank you for the good read. I have many mormon friends who are very upset that I have your book and read yours and Carolyn Jessop book. I found your situation that you overcame such adversity a remarkable experience. Your truly a strong person.

Comments Irene, The book is great. I'm friends with Jennifer Lebaron here in Austin, Texas and she sent out an email promoting the book. I bought it this weekend and have not been able to put it down. And, I don't even like reading. It is just so differnt than how I was brought up that it is almost like fiction. I'm just now to the part where you married Verlan. I'm looking forward to reading more tonight! Cheers, Amy :)

Comments Just finished reading your book. I am considering passingit to a friend of mine who is a fundamentalist christian cult. The lessons are the same. legalism broken promises living in fear of hell. It is my belief that ALL fundamentalism is by nature false as it relies on the word of a book rather than listening to the heart. andy

Comments I ordered your book from Amazon.com. It arrived on Saturday and I had to finish reading it before I went to bed on Sunday!! What an interesting story. How sad that so many people on this planet do such horrifying things because of their religion. I shutter to think of all the "wives" and "children" of this lifestyle has been compromised. You are the lucky one. Is Charlotte still in this way of life?? She seemed the most pathetic of the "wivess". It seems that Susan also wrote a book. I hope that your life has been happy beyond belief since your book has been published and that you make tons of $$$ to help with your grand/great grand childrens' education and a better life.

Comments Hi Irene, Thank you for writing this wonderful book! Please always keep writing, you have a magnificent voice. I am in an independent study comparing & contrasting the extremism of the Taliban in Afghanistan & the polygamous sects of Mormanism in the USA. Your book brought a much deeper investigation into the everyday struggles that the families, but especially women & children go through. You are such a strong & couragous woman. I am so glad you are out, & speaking the truths of your ordeal for the rest of the world to know about. I very much look forward to your next book! Blessings to you & yours.

Comments Oh my darling girl- I am stunned at what you had to endure for so many years of your life.I know that now you are a great grandmother and at last leading a happy life and am happy for you. I have read both your first two books and also ones written by Susan, Carolyn and Kim. Now I am looking for the one written by Verlan. It is amazing that you were not killed by Ervil and his followers for your supposed outspoken-ness. You suffered so much and I was right there with you because I can understand completely the unfairness of it all. I could not have helped myself from speaking up either. It amazes me that you stayed as long as you did and how you helped so many others through their trials while you were suffering so much yourself. I found your letter to your now husband to be very touching when you renewed your vows. It spoke to me to be more appreciative of my life and husband and what we have together. I have found that we women can be tough when we need to be,as I have endured alot of heartache in my life also. But I admire you

Comments I would like to thank you for your tremdous courage to write your memoirs into a book. I saw your interview on Anderson Cooper 360. I wrote the name of your book down and went to Barnes and Noble the next day and bought it. It was the only copy they had l> eft. I couldn't put it down. I'm an avid reader especially when it comes to memoirs. Truly, yours in one that will stay with me forever. > > Just reading it made me thankful for all the little things I have in my life that I take for granted. Even though I don't know what its like to live a polyamist life, I do know whats its like to love someone and not have them there for you. I love my husb> and, but I never get to see him much. He works offshore on a drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico. So I go weeks without seeing him and when he comes in he has so much stuff to take of that I feel like I'm playing second fiddle to everyone else that needs h> is attention. I'm not complaing. I've been living this life for 16 yrs now and I'm just use to it. He
