We really enjoyed the tour today. We were so amazed at the items in the store and the history behind each item. Your hospitality was excellent. The knowledge that you have and the spirit that you show in the restoration is marvelous. We can hardly wait to come visit again. We will definately bring more visitors with us next time! We thank each of you again for the wonderful time spent with you and your family. My family and I wish you the best of luck in the restoration.

Some of my earliest memories are of Fayette County and the New River Company Stores. My grandfather was Clarence Bishop, the manager of the Scarbro store and his brother, Aub Bishop, was at the Oak Hill store. When my grandfather died in the mid 1960's he owned the Scarbro store and the attached businesses which included the theater, White Oak Drug Store and the pool hall (although none of these were operating anymore). I was still in grade school but I have vivid memories of our family sorting through the contents of these businesses. As a result, I have inherited a lot of memorabilia, including a large collection of scrip. I remember the Whipple building quite well. I am not sure if it was still open but it was certainly a landmark. If I am ever in the area I will make a point to visit your museum. Beth Griffith Reisman Daughter of Ann Bishhop Griffith

We stopped in on Friday and took your tour - fascinating! Anyone with any interest in the coal industry and/or organized labor should definitely do the same! This is the heritage and history of the region.

I heard a story that my Mom and Sister were in your place, the Old Whipple Co. Store, not long after you opened. The story goes something like; "Someone at the store mentioned that there was a hidden safe somewhere in the building, but that they didn't know where it was. My Mom spoke up and said, "I know where it is!"....and she did, because she used to work there long ago." Just wondering if the story is true. Thanks, Bill Jordan (son of Louise Miller Jordan - deceased 10/2003)

Hi Joy, What you are doing and have done is amazing. I was on the inaugural Coal Country tour and your hospitality was wonderful. Along with that you gave us a real sense of a real time in America. I know that all of the people in our group were thrilled with the way you and your staff welcomed us and educated us. Thanks again and I Will be back.
