Jack Barrett was the consummate gentleman and spiritual compliment to all with whom he engaged. The artwork of this wonderful soul continued to remain fresh in the changes that occur with eyes that are open not simply upon ones face, but within the far reaches of the mind. Thank God that Jack created such pieces that forever keep him with us here on earth. God Bless the soul of this gentle man.

Sorry to just now find out about the passing of Jack.He was my favorite instructor at the Ivy School of Professional Art in Pittsburgh 1968-69, he was like by everyone there. I'm so mad that I missed seeing him at the show he had at the Art Institute in Pittsburgh. God Rest Jack. Chuck Percherke

I attended Ivy school of professional art in 1969-'71. I remember Jack's ability to spontaneously draw these little thumbnail images to make his point.It impressed me that he had such a command of the pencil/pen and the human figure.I've chosen illustration as a career and Jack Barrett has had a part in that choice.

I inherited a painting from my grandmother. I had always enjoyed seeing the painting at her house when we visited from California, but the artist was a mystery to me. When I took the painting home to replace the beat-up frame, I found taped on the back a newspaper clipping about the artist, Jack Barrett, being named Florida's Illustrator of the Year in 1975. Grandma had scribbled a note beneath, "1976 - Haiti", the subject of the piece. I only wish I had some inkling of who the artist was before five minutes ago! The gallery on your site showcases a wonderful talent. I'm sorry not to have met the creator of those emotive yet balanced, complex yet simple pieces, along with my beautiful "mystery painting".

Hey there Mrs. Barrett (I have forgotten your first name, but met you a few times at events of Jack's. I purchased one of his originals and still enjoy it very much. So very sorry to hear about Jack's passing, he will be sorrowfully missed and his talent that brought great joy to the observer, collector and fellow artists. This Dianna D. Williams, Tarpon Springs, Fl., who just moved to Saipan with her husband. He is the only Eye Surgeon at the Marianas Eye Institute and the Hospital. I just learned that one of my earliest influences, and certainly one of my favorite people of all time passed away recently. My "Uncle Jack" died on Sunday at the age of 78. He was truly a one of a kind individual. He was the first and probably the only person I ever met that made a living being a true artist. I first met him when I was maybe 5 years old and he owned a house 4 doors away from me. His wife, Marie and their daughter, Stephanie were friends of my mother and sister's respectively. "Uncle Jack" would talk to me like a friend or equal. He never talked down to me as an adult to a child. He would just TALK to me. I never knew an adult like him. Before or since. Jack was an artiist and I would go into his basement (sometimes sneaking) to get a quick peek on what he was working on at the time. He would always spend the time to explain to me what he was painting. His paintings adorned my dentist's office where my mother worked for many years. Jack and Louise were always very kind to me as an aspiring young cartoonist. He was a mentor and a true friend during my formative years.
