Comments In 1959 I celebrated my first birthday at the FIRESIDE INN. This year will mark my 53rd summer at beautiful Grand Lake. I am not sure that in 1908 the Kauffman family realized what an incredible place they had carved out of the woods along the shoreline. Today, it has stood tall for more than a century. When I arrived, “Uncle Joe” & “Aunt Evelyn” Shank a couple that never had any children of their own, owned the Inn and left an impression on me that will never fade. Today, my children are fifth generation visitors to Grand lake and the Fireside Inn. The McConnell family; Bob, Lois, Lori, Terry and Allen, continue that tradition by running the Inn similar to that original vision by making everyone feel like they are a part of the Fireside family. Thank you to the people, but most importantly to what Fireside stands for as a beacon to real family vacations, friendships and remembering what memories are still made of. Here's to the 106th season, may it be safe, enjoyable and as usual, “another beautiful day at Grand Lake.”
