Comments I spent a good part of my teenage life at Marineland in the late 60s early 70s. I was a member of the Explorer Post hosted by the Marineland research and training staff. We had responsibility for the care and training of two dolphins, Cindy and Ops. Cindy made it into the big show upstairs where she did the big jump, about 25 feet out of the water. I remember Ray Cribbs teaching us training methods and how to stuff a dolphin's vitamin pill inside a mackrel. I also worked several summers, with a progression of jobs from dragging burlap sacks up to the top of the big slide, to usher on the front gate, working for Wally Knuchell. Some of my shifts were on the Tower. I can remember how many times I announced "The car rotates two and a half times going up, twice at the top, and two and a half times going down." I spent most of my lunch hours on the second or third floor, sitting next to the amazing and beautiful jewel tanks. What a treat to earn my SCUBA certification in the Oval tank in the mornings before opening.

Comments I still have vivid images of the front marque upon entering that wonderful park of the killerwhale and dolphins. It just gave me great expectations as a child.

Comments I MISS MARINELAND VERY MUCH. ITS BEEN SO LONG SINCE ITS BEEN GONE, THOUGH IT SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY. I GO BY THERE SOMETIMES AND SEE THE SPOT WHERE THEY WANTED A LUXURY HOTEL SO BAD THEY DESTROYED A VALUABLE PIECE OF CALIFORNIAS HISTORY. MAYBE SOMEDAY SOME INVESTORS WOULD TRY TO BRING IT BACK TO US. I FEEL THAT IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY NOW THERE ARE SO MANY MORE PEOPLE, THAT THE PARK WOULD BE HIGHLY SUCESSFUL.

Comments I visited Marineland in the 60's. My family always visited Bubbles the whale and Dolly the dolphine. It was a great thrill to see them in action and I'm glad they can still be seen at Sea World. But, I really miss Marineland.

Comments Great site, but I keep waiting for those tapes of Jack Stapleton that you mention you'll be adding. I remember Jack well, as I was a custodian at Marineland for about a year, my first job after high school in 1972. He was a very nice guy, and I'd hear those annoucements five days a week, multiple times a day! It would be a nostalgic rush to hear them again. Hope you put them up soon! Thanks!

Comments I worked in Guest Relations the last year Marineland was open, up until it's very last day. Still remember when they took Orky and Corky away in the middle of the night. 20 years later I still miss the place. Sad to see the last of it go...

Comments I was born in California and remember several trips to Marineland as a child before we moved to Canada. When did it close? I didn't even know until I was watching the special features on my Pirates of the Caribbean DVD and they mentioned using the site for some of their locations.

Comments I grew up visiting Marineland and I always looked forward with excitment to going there. On my last visit as a young adult in the 1980s, I was selected out of the audience to take part in the killer whale show. I stood on a platform on stage, leaning over the pool with my cheek turned to the water, and Orky (or was it Corky?) leapt out of the water and softly "kissed" me on the cheek. Then I was handed a big fish to feed him. I still have the picture of that kiss, taken by my very excited half-sister who was visiting from Ohio. Years later, after Marineland was closed, my husband and I and two friends walked the crumbling grounds. It was a bittersweet experience--good memories mixed up with the sadness of Marineland having passed into history. Thanks for keeping the memory alive!

Comments I'm probably the only person to sign this guestbook who never went there (only 22 and in Canada at that). Recently I was surprised to hear that yet another place shared the name "Marineland" (I have been to Marineland Canada). I found the pictures beautiful but was saddened to hear that such a lovely place closed down. It's really a shame that no future generations will ever be able to visit it. At least you website can show us what it looked like. :) Thank you~
