Comments Born and raised in Mandan, I remember the old Mandan Hotel, with it's buffalo head high up on a wall, and photographs of Mandan and Lakkota (Arikkara) first American photos on a wall leading to the back office. And working as a candy dancer the summer on the NP North Branch after high school before attending BJC and DSC, Dickinson. Dad, John Hunke, uncle Harry Hunke, were conductor and engineer respectively on the NP. Dad's run was between Mandan and Glendive, MT. Grandpa Max was an engineer, all long career railroaimen, in the days of steam power before diesel engines.

Comments My great grandfather John Tischler owned one of the first hotels built in Almont, N.D. in the early 1900's. My grandfather Frank Tischler owned a hardware store in Flasher , N.D. in the 1930's. He had an embalming business in the back of the store I have a book of records of people who died in Flasher, N.D.

I am the owner of a beautiful photograph of what I believe to be Arthur Peterson in a throne, full costume and makeup as King Lear, presumably at Actors Company led by Min Gallizter(sp?) in Chicago. I also have a set of "playing house" furniture which was supposedly given to my parents Jay and Mary (Ruether) Norman by Arthur and Norma when I was born in 1956. I was looking for Arthur's heirs, and found you. I raise my salute, as The Colonel on "Soap" might have, to your wonderful museum. sincerely, Margaret Norman

Comments The Salvation Army had a basement workshop in the 1950's where a friend and I turned lamp bases out of bowling pins. I didn't see anything about the Salvation Army. My dad, Grant Hartley was part of the group that started the Railroad Museum. Since the railroad was such an integral part of Mandan's history, it seems like there should be something on the museum.

Comments We visited the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Medora last fall. Lee Mohr and James and Jamie Childs are all honored in their ND Hall of Fame. I would like to see them all honored as outstanding citizens of Mandan by the Mandan Historical Society

Comments When did the original Mandan (Morton County) courthouse burn? I remember the brick shell left in the 1950s until it was finally dynamited and brought down. It was on Courthouse hill and next to the county jail. Please let me know if you have this information. Just curious.
