Comments My grandparents lived on the south end of Torch, on Crystal Beach road. My family would travel north from Illinois each summer for a week or 2 of absolute delight. I am now 72 years of age and started this odyssey when I was seven. My grandparents have been gone for many years now but the wonderful days at Torch and the associated memories are never far from my heart. I have a "bucket list" as I guess most of us do and one of the main wishes was that my 6 children and their families could one day spend a week with my wife and I at Torch Lake. This wish was fulfilled in July of 2009, as we rented a large summer home on the sunrise side of Torch opposite Clam River and also a Log home a mile away (for the adults), we numbered 30 in total and it was a wonderful experience for us all. When we returned home my children made up a vacation book on the computer and it is in constant use by the grandchildren. I was also given an autographed copy of Priscilla Miller's book on Alden and have gotten many memories rekindled in reading a

Comments I have nothing but wonderful memories of this town. As a little girl back in the late 70's and early 80's my family would visit my grandparents who lived on Clam Lake and we would visit Alden to swim and for Superman ice cream....does the ice cream parlor still have Super Man? I hope to visit the town again very soon....I am 37 now and treasure the memories of the days gone by.

Comments My Grandparents lived in Alden. Their name was Hawley, one of the original families from just after the Civil War. I spent many summers there in the 1950's and even went to Mancelona High School for awhile. Wonderful place. It will always be part of my core... and who I turned out to be.

Comments My husband had the pleasure of staying with friends in Alden on Torch Lake. It is the most beautiful, friendliest, quiet, and peaceful town that we have been to in a long time. We enjoyed it so much that we are thinking about renting something for the summer next year.

Comments My Mom's family grew up in Alden:Coy is my mother's maiden name?? Yes Coy Mountain is named after my Mom's family. Alden has always been a treat for us when we come up north: esp Higgins Ice Cream: my mom used to work there when it was a Drug store/ Ice Cream store?? It's has great treats and food: can't wait to visit again.
