Comments Hello - I am a Granddaughter of Richard Alexander Haines, Sr., Lt. Richard Haines, of Haines Falls, New York and Palo Alto, California. I'm writing to let you know that his eldest daughter, my mother, Mary-Jane (Haines) Fox crossed over December 20th in Vancouver, Washington. She was living in assisted living/memory care due to late onset Alzheimer's. My sister, Lisa Krauss, and I have not created an obituary yet, I will forward it later. There is no service, but this Spring I take her ashes back down to California to be placed beside her late husband, Martin Fox (deceased 2004). Mom, Lisa and I visited Haines Falls September of 1992, it was a highlight for us all. Mom was preceded in death by Richard Alexander Haines, Jr. of Stockton, California (deceased 2008) and is survived by Barbara Ann (Haines) Magee, living in Canby, Oregon. Comments I am a direct descendant of Benjamin Haines (b 1643), one of James Haines's sons. This line moved off to Ulster/Orange Co. NY, in about 1730. After a couple of generations my Haineses ended up in southeastern Michigan. My dad moved from there to L.A. in about 1925.

Comments My cousin, Samuel Abernethy, mentioned your organization to me last year. Would you be interested in receiving a box of extensive genealogies, letters and pictures from Jennie Haines? They came to me through my grandfather, Cleveland Arthur Dunn, my father Rogers Cleveland Dunn, and his sisters, Jane (Sam's mother), Marjorie, and Esther. The box cover is signed by Jennie and Cleveland. I still own a portion of the Cleveland Dunn land in Haines Falls. Michelle Yost has been working to open the Kaaterskill Rail Trail through here to North Lake. I should have checked with the association first to get your local perspective... Comments As a child my dad told me his ancestors came from the Catskills. The farthest I can trace back is a John T. Haynes/Hayns b. in NY in Sept of 1824, married to Marietta Campbell in 1846 and Susan Waldren in 1864. Relatives say John was born in "Monark", but I can find no such place in NY. Comments wish you had more photos of the area and maybe some older ones too. I never seem to be able to get there any more and would love to see the mountains and the town, the park and north and south lake. I used to climb north mountain with my aunt Marjorie Dunn. Jennie Haines was my grandmother.
