Comments This is a great project; thanks for your efforts. I just learned about three more levels on my family tree. I have some specific information, derived from baptismal certificates from St. Patrick's Church in Fredericksted, concerning three children of Anthony and Louisa Phelan. Margret Phelan - baptismal certificate names her as Mary (but US Census of 1900 lists her as Margaret); born, Sept. 14, 1848; baptized, Jan. 7, 1849; sponsors: Miss H. Carden and C. McEvoy. Mary L. Phelan - baptismal certificate names her as Marie Louisa; born, Apr. 7, 1850; baptized, Jun. 9, 1850; sponsors not listed. Charles Anthony Phelan (my great-grandfather) - born, Feb. 26, 1852; baptized, April 14, 1852; sponsors, Peter McEvoy and Mary Louise Doute. If you would like me to e-mail you copies of the documents, please let me know.

Comments This is a wonderful page to which I shall keep reverting - it has already been tremendously useful. Præst på St. Croix, forfatter Jørgen Nicolaus Oxholm deserves to have ancestors and descendants represented, and I shall be glad to provide them as a document or GEDCOM file

Comments Til Svend Holsoe. Måske står al vor korrespondance op computeren i Frankrig.

Comments In June 2009, I visited St. Croix and delivered a large collection of papers related to the estate of George Walker, a prominent merchant of Frederiksted. Those papers are now at the St. Croix Landmarks Society. Of special interest is the settlement of his estate, which details the entire inventory of the firm Walker & Hill (down to the last button and nail). I have found no reference in our family papers to any marriage or children. He died in 1872 in possession of Estates Diamond and Ruby, Betty's Hope, St. George, and 2 others. This fine website details a "relationship" and two children. I would be pleased to learn more about their descendants. George Walker's brother, Henry A. Walker, is also noted as a member of the Presbyterian Church. This website notes two "relationships" and four children. George Walker and Henry A. Walker were sons of the prominent Albany merchant Willard Walker. Their sister, Lavinia Walker, married business partner Henry Hill and settled in England. Their half-sister, Julia Rebecca Walker,

Comments Our great grandfather Louis Petit (later he changed the family name to Little) was born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. He had a distinguished naval career with the U.S. armed forces when he enlisted in 1889 and was sent in 1899 to the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. He settled there, married and had a family. If you can send us any information about him and his ancestors, that would be great. He was born on March 10, 1873 in St. Thomas. Thanks very much for your help.

Comments Thank you and God bless you, for putting this information free on the net. It would be wonderful,if the same information was available for the other plantation islands in the Indies. My husband`s great grandfather was Robert Huggins( born 1841? Ireland, died 24 May 1900, Windsor, NSW, Australia.)Robert wrote in his Accounts ledger for Castle Bruce Estate, St David Parish, Dominica which he was the owner from 24 April 1865 to 1 Sept 1869, that on the 23 April 1863, Robert, age 22, sold Estate Nicholas for $15,000. His share $1,673, the other investors a Mr Beech and Griffith. I am simply amazed at the number of Irish from Cavan who were living in the Virgin Irelands. Robert Huggins had an older brother John who was a planter in the Indies but unfortunately I don`t know his date of birth, he married 2 November 1878 in Cavan, Mary Ann Bleakley bpt 21 Feb 1858 Cavan and that is all I can discover. This is a wonderful site to help families discover their roots. Sue.

Comments With my wife I visited St Croix January 24-26 this year in the hope of finding anything related to ancestors who were known to have lived there. With the aid of Mrs Rickie Marshall at the library in Christiansted I found interesting new information, most of it compiled by Svend E Holsoe in Virgin Island Families. (Maybe you are reading this, mr Holsoe?) For instance the name and location of the Heitmanns´plantation Frederikshaab, which we also visited. I am interested in the history of the families Heitmann, Zimmermann and de Fine Olivarius, and I may also be able to make a few contributions.

Comments I am interested in any details relating the Øgaard family on St. Croix. My grandfather (or more precisely my grandmother's second husband) is a descendant of Carl Ludvig Teodor Øgaard (born 1833 in Christiansted) who emigrated to Sydney Australia in 1861. I have a scanned copy of his naturalisation certificate from 1869 if anyone is interested.

Comments I love this site..I grew up on St. Croix and lived in est. Figtree. All through out the years I always was curious about the 2 tombstones of Laurence Bladwell(infant) and Mary Bladwell (13yrs) that reside in the back of the neighborhood. Though until now I could never find much about them other than very limited info from Whim

Comments I think I can add some information to the van Beverhoudt pages. I have found the wills of Anna and Peter Smith (Pierre Le Serrurier)from 1710 which mentions Engel van Beverhoudt and his widow Susannah Jansen who is sister to Anna Smith. [G.H.C. Numéro 66 : Décembre 1994 Page 1216] A connection between Susannah Jansen/Beverhoudt and Jean/Jan Rogiers/Rollier (who disappeared together about 1698) is mentioned in the will and also by Ryberg in his 'list of inhabitants of the Danish West Indian Islands'. Susanne van Beverhoudt was "a widow living alone with a few slaves on section 59" in the Saban Landowner's List of 1699. She is not on the list in 1705. Will Johnson mentions Engel van Beverhoudt: "Some of the first Vice Commanders were Dutchmen. One of them Engel van Beverhoudt (1687-1690)got killed by a falling stone while fishing on the rocks below the cliffs between Tent Bay and The Ladder. I believe there is a rock there called the Governors rock." Ryberg's records are from the Danish West Indies, so I'm ass
