Comments I am looking for my great grandmother, Concetta Pontillo, and I think I have found her! The family always said she was from Napoli, but apparently she was from Paduli. For some reason her ship manifest doesn't come up on ellisisland.org. I happened to find it on ancestry.com and then on this site. Thank you so much for the info!

Comments My grandparents were Rocco and Angelina Minicozzi, who emigrated to the United States from Paduli in the early 1920s and settled in Oyster Bay, New York. My father was their oldest son, Giovanni (John) Minicozzi. He was born in Paduli and brought to the United States as a young child. My father fought in World War II. I was born in 1946, in Oyster Bay, but when I was three years old my father moved all of us to the State of Washington, where I grew up. My grandmother, Angelina Minicozzi, was a native of Paduli. When I asked her what her maiden name was, she said something that sounded like "Tatara." I am assuming that she was giving me a dialect pronunciation of "Tartaro" or "Tataro." I have not been able to find any records of anyone in Paduli with that name. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to find my grandmother's birth records? Also, I don't know the names of my grandfather's parents. My grandfather's name was Rocco Minicozzi. Minicozzi is a very common name in the area around Paduli, so I don'

Comments Hi. My grandfather, Nicola DeJesu, came to New York from Paduli in the late 1800's. My father, Nick DeJesu, was born in Oyster Bay, New York and I was born in Glen Cove, New York - but I did not grow up in the US. I grew up in Naples, Italy and visited Paduli when it was hit by a devastating earthquake in the early 1960's. I moved to the US in 1976.

Comments My grand parents and great grandparents were from Paduli... I was told my grandfather, Nicola, changed our spelling from De Iesu to De Jesu, for some mysterious reason. Nice to see my relatives names on your list, those names I only remember dimly from my childhood and see the actual dates they arrived here.

Comments My Great Grandfather, Rocco Vissichelli, came to NY from Paduli between 1885 and 1887. He was born in Paduli in 1869. He married Teresa Pasquale (not 100% of spelling) i know Vissichelli is sometimes spelled Vesichella, vessichello, Vessichelli. Hard to find more info on them.

Comments please note you have my great grandmother's name listed incorrectly on your list of immigrants. Her name appears as Vittoria but it is really Villermina Massimiano who arrived in April 1911 on the ship Duca D'Aosta. Her name appears correctly on the bronze plaque, Villermina Martini. (Martini being her married name.) Thanks so much for the correction.

Comments Peter Vivenzio is a descendant of the Paduli Vivenzio's. I am told: James Vivenzio married Angelina Marco Guiseppe in New York, then moved to Pennsylvania where he worked as a coal miner. They had 13 chlildren, 11 survived. The family then moved to Auburn NY. James Vivenzio worked with his brother Augostino at International Harvestor. My husband is of that lineage, and his father Gus Vivenzio still lives in Auburn NY. We hope to visit Paduli in June 2012.

Comments I talked to you beiefly as I was going to Paduli in 2007 because my daughter Amanda was studying abroad in Rome. We then caught up with you again in New York in the summer of 2007 as the Paduli representatives came there. What a lot of work you have done. It was fun seeing my grandparents names in your log. Thanks for all you do!

Comments Enjoy your website. I believe you once listed my mother's death notice (Katharine [Mainella] Avella) which was very kind of you. I also enjoyed your article on Rocco Florio, whom I remember with much affection, especially when we were in Paduli for the St. Rocco Feast back in 1969. I am getting to retire and I have some information which may be of interest to you, i.e. things given to me by my mother including the programs for the testimonial dinners of Frank S. Mainella, MD (my uncle) and Michael C. Barone MD (my cousin), a guest list from Dr. Barone's testimonial ( a Who's Who of the Padulesi in East New York, Brooklyn, some photographs of the testimonial dinners as well as a program honoring the Golden Jubilee of Monsignor Enrico De Vivo, my grandmother's (Clementina [Massimiano] Mainella's cousin. As I will be retiring to Puerto Rico and must part with many personal treasures, if the Society is interested in these, I will be glad to donate them to you. Tante belle cose, Joe Avella
