My son had a tracheotomy and was on a ventilator for nine years. He ate ALL of his nutrition through a g tube. He went through countless feeding evaluations and to many WELL known hospitals for feeding therapies several times a week for several years, all to just find out they were treating him wrong. That was all before we found Nancy at NJPFA. Once we found her and had her treat Gabriel we knew he would succeed with eating by mouth. Nancy did vital stimulation therapy with him and worked with him so wonderfully. She explained everything to us and showed us how to be successful at home with our son eating by mouth. If it wasn't for Nancy Gabriel would not be able to enjoy all the food that he now does by mouth. Nancy made the impossible happen... what everyone told us Gabriel wasn't able to do, Nancy made happen. She was and always will be a blessing to our family. Gabriel is now 15 years old and enjoys all different kinds of food with no problems!! We couldn't be more thankful for all she has done for our family. She

Forever Grateful I am writing to compliment and thank you for the work you have done with Madeline. After searching for 1.5 years and trying different speech/feeding programs we finally found Nancy. I cannot express how indebted we are to Nancy Calamusa, MA, CCC-SLP and the staff at New Jersey Pediatric Feeding Associates & Therapy Center. After leaving various SLP (feeding specialists) that told me that my daughter would never chew, we were greeted by Nancy Calamusa with open arms. Those arms have never closed. My daughter has made incredible progress. She went from eating only purees to chewing various foods from multiple food groups in just a few weeks. No therapist has ever taken the time to teach me how to help her. I understand when you explain what I need to do to facilitate chewing and swallowing. I knew from the minute I met you that Madeline would be able to chew. You're awesome! I'm so glad you are her therapist.

Hi, My 11 month old daughter was having eating difficulties, solid food made her puke! We were distraught new parents and quite terrified. Our pediatrician recommended that I schedule an appointment with Nancy Calamusa to diagnose and treat. We immediately called to schedule an appointment. Within the first minute of talking with Nancy on the phone, I knew that we would be fine. After listening and asking some additional questions, Nancy suggested a simple intervention. We made an appointment for the following week, just in case the intervention was not successful. Believe it or not, it worked from the very first try. Within a day, my daughter was eating like an old pro. THANK YOU NANCY. Nancy even called us back to see how it was going and see if we wanted more advice. (who could be nicer?) The most amazing part of this story, is that Nancy did not go forward with expensive and unnecessary appointments. 9.3.12 Nancy: We wanted to take a moment to thank you for the extraordinary care you have provided for our son Henry. We have had the pleasure of working with you for 1.5 years and it has been an incredible experience. You are truly the best. As you may remember, we came to you on recommendation from Dr. Soula Koniaris at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. At the time, Henry was being treated for feeding issues at St. Joseph�s Medical Center but was not progressing. He was refusing to eat (even pureed foods) and it took him over two minutes to chew a Cheerio. You immediately took us under your wing and dramatically changed all of our lives. The 1.5-hour round-trip commute to your center was well worth it. Henry has thrived under your care and your dedication to him has been amazing. Hi Nancy, You can not imagine how thankful we are to you for all that you have done for Steven. I remember that the first time I spoke to you on the phone, you were so confident about your ability to get him to eat. I was thinking, "Just wait until she meets him!" But you allayed my fears and you really built up his oral motor skills, while dealing with the behaviors in SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME! You really are a Superwoman!! YiChien, Thank you so much for getting my Ashlee to talk. After Early Intervention and another Speech Therapist who couldn�t help, I was feeling helpless. You reassured me that not only would Ashlee speak, but that she would speak like a normal child. After only 2 months of therapy she was putting 2 words together. I will never forget the day she woke up from her nap and said "mommy down!" After 6 months of working with you she is full on talking. If we were never referred to you, I don�t know where Ashlee would be now. You were so patient working with her and your technique is truly amazing. It�s bittersweet that Ashlee was "discharged." Nancy - Our one visit to you has really helped our son feeding. Before we saw you it was almost impossible for him to eat any chewable food and he would keep spitting, no matter how much we tried. The techniques you showed us has helped him to start gobbling the chewable foods. It has been a slow progression but now his eating has become so much easier and less stressful. Thanks Nancy.

Dear Nancy, We just wanted to thank you for all of the help and guidance you provided us with for Olivia Viscomi. When she first came to you , she was barely able to swallow basic foods without gagging on them. By following your "rules", we are at a point where Olivia picked up a piece of bacon and took a huge bite without prompting...I almost cried. Tonight she asked for some apple pie after dinner. Marc and I do not know how to thank you. You quickly identified the root of the problem and instructed us on how to correct it. You also gave us valuable insight on how to approach feeding our new baby that is on the way! We will NOT follow the advice in the baby books, but instead will follow my baby's cues as when to begin solids. Thank you again for helping my daughter eat and our family enjoy meals together. Nancy, I know I'm a little late in signing this, but I must tell you I think about you every meal. From the moment I met you I knew you would be the right person to help my beautiful little girl. Your understanding and patience are unparalleled . You spent countless times just teaching me how to relax and really get in tune with feeding my daughter. Great news! Brenda is off the tube now, and I must say alot of it is to your credit! You deal so well with children. You make everyone feel so comftorable. It was definitely worth the trip every week! Nancy, You have truly changed our lives. Our son Jack has always had "eating issues" - a reluctance and a fear to try new foods and textures - plus oral motor issues due to low tone. When we first came to you, Jack's diet was extremely limited. It was difficult to go out to dinner or visit friends or family without bringing our own food. Now his diet has TRIPLED and continues to grow with each visit. It is all thanks to you!! Nancy, Many people come in and out of our lives, but only few hold a special place in our hearts. Christa had feeding issues since birth. She cried through every feeding and eventually by 7 weeks old was refusing her bottle altogether. She had been diagnosed by the pediatrician as failure to thrive and having severe reflux. She was referred to a pediatric GI specialist who put her on 3 different meds daily. Her formula was changed 4 times. Nothing helped. She was still not gaining weight and was not growing. The specialist suggested admitting Christa in the hospital for further testing and that it was now time to put her on a feeding tube. She also suggested that I take her to see Nancy, a feeding specialist. I walked in to the appointment with many different emotions. Within minutes, Nancy knew that her problem was coordinating her suck, swallow, breathe and poor muscle tone. She changed the nipple on her bottle, showed me a better way of holding her and she then started drinking. I immediately started crying

We met Nancy when Victoria was admitted to RWJ at 7 months old, back in April 2005. She was the first to feed Victoria pureed baby food and taught me how to feed her. In the many months following, I tried to conquer Victoria's many feeding issues with the help of Early Intervention, which ended up being successful, but looking back, I wish I had gone back to Nancy, for I know now that the road would have been smoother, paved with much more personalized care and quicker progress. After being put back in touch with Nancy, I am glad she is a part of our lives. As the father of a child who practically everyone gave up hope on. I truly feel blessed that we found Nancy Calamusa. After being told it may be five years before we could even try to orally feed my daugther, we went to Nancy. Within 2 months my daughter was able to safely eat purees.
