Comments The water is cold and fast. Try smaller fly patterns. I tried several wooly bugger, size 14, with different colors, and some scuds and eggs in the first 3 hours; and I didn't feel one single bite. Then I flipped out the rock and found plenty of midge nymphs. Size 20 zebra midge black play the tricks. 3 beautiful brown trouts were safely released back to the water.

Comments Tried small black midges, scuds, SJ worm, even real eggs/spawn bags- all usually produce efficiently. Nothing worked. Put on a large prince nymph and had 2 fish within 20 min. Water was murky, should have gone big and meaty right off the bat. Wonderful December day in the 60's! Love this stream!

Comments Access was great, there seemed to be a lot of sediment in the streambed (steps prouced thick chocolate milk-like clouds). This could possibly be from from the unstabilized open earth channel below the dam. Three of the fish were stockers and the one 4" fish seemed to be a naturally reproduced one. It had pronounced visible spots and better coloration than the others.

Comments Best fishing was from 7am - 1030am. Midge then Trico hatch. Fish were eating mostly emerges (you could see the backs and tails breaking the surface, not their noses). I used a seine to sample bugs; the naturals were basically a size 30/32. I was able to fool a few of them on a size 26 midge emerger.
