Frank was a good friend and a gentleman. I was at Korat 12/67- 12/68 and still consider it the most impressive, life altering experience I’ve ever had.

Was a pilot in the 421st Black Widows 73-74. Then to Seymour Johnny 74-77, Langley in F15 77-79. Separated AF in 79. Retired in March. Worked with Dave Erickson in scheduling and had a few Scotch's with Billy Joe Kyle. I think about that year a lot, it was a great experience in my life.

I wonder if anyone with the 421st remembers my cousin Col Sam Porter(Ret). He was a Capt with the 421st at Danang and flew 203 missions in 1970. He passed away in 2005. I was in Vietnam 66-67. THANKS

I was at Korat Jan66 to Jan67. anyone remember 62-4395? My mig killer in May Maj. Fred Tracy shot down mig15 and was injured and brought 395 back with 120 holes, I could stand up in the hole in the left horizontal stabilizer. took 6 weeks of hard work before I could run the engine. Took 6 test pilots before #6 said if I can get this bird in the air and it goes wrong I'll punch out. Came back 6 weeks later new skin and paint. I have a photo of 395 loaded for a mission in the revetment and scab patches can be seen. Now there is also tail munber 123 majo Kenneth Blank was flying and shot down the first mig-17 by a thunderchief just 213 rounds. 123 had the red star with 213 rounds, Major Blank painted left side of cockpit for I put it there. 395 was sweet, seldom had defects (on initial status a lot)one pilot scoffed at zero defects until he returned from mission and agreed 395 was free of defects, but also had to throttle back for the rest of the flight could not keep up. You had to be careful with 123 for he would hurt you. I was install

I am currently researching the F-105 and hope to contact pilots who flew the type with the 36TFW and 49TFW in USAFE prior to Vietnam. Any help would be much appreciated.

This is a wonderful site. My father, Charles ("Chuck") Edward Franklin is listed as one of the members of the squadron who died in Vietnam after being shot down on August 14, 1966. I was born three months later and never met him. If any of the remaining members of the squadron have memories of him, I would welcome the chance to learn of him. Thank you all for your service Respectfully, Chuck's son

Hello, The reason I visited your website is that recently viewed a Viet Nam documentary. In the documentary there is about an hour long chapter about the 421, filmed during the war. I was able to recognize one of pictures in the memorial section of the website in the documentary. The documentary title is "That was Nam, The Collection" and is the 2nd section of disk #6. Just wanted to let you know that there's information about the 421, I'm sure the video will be appreciated in the next reunion. V/R, ES
