of Huntsville and Lisa Flanagan of Huntsville. Frances acquired a BS degree from Jacksonville State University and her Master’s degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She devoted 32 years of teaching and then guidance counseling at Huntsville High School from 1969-1991. Frances, along with her husband, Bill, were avid golfers. They were members of Valley Hill Country Club and had a home on the golf course. They also enjoyed playing bridge with several couples. They were members of Weatherly Baptist Church. We were so blessed to have 3 wonderful caregivers who took excellent care of her as if she were their mother. One of the caregivers was her sister, Linda Flanagan. Her other two caregivers were Carol Rush of Ardmore and Anne Marie Auguste of Harvest. She was also cared for by North Alabama Hospice. There will be a Celebration of Life from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on February 25, 2024, at Valley Hill Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please donate to First Tee, P.O. Box 3055, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL

Frances Gerstlauer Obituary (Laughlin Funeral Home, Huntsville al) Frances Gerstlauer passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Huntsville, AL. She was born on August 27,1929 in Section, AL. Frances lived an amazing 94 years. She was admired for her generosity and kindness. Frances married William "Bill" Gerstlauer in 1948. They were married for over 59 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 2007; also, her parents, Olivia and Cletus Zeigler of Section, AL; and twin brothers, Burrell Zeigler of Chattanooga and Gerald Zeigler of Scottsboro; and brother-in-law, James "Bud" Flanagan. Frances is survived by her oldest daughter, Fran Gilbert (Randy); youngest daughter, Susan Willis (Richard Howard); grandchild, Whitley Reynolds (Chase); great-grandsons, Eli and Easton; sister, Linda Flanagan of Huntsville; sister-in-law, Mary Zeigler of Scottsboro, AL; and nieces, Jennie Bibler (Joe) of Chattanooga, TN, Leigh Conolly of Atlanta, GA, Lori Pearson (Ron) of Atlanta, GA, Melanie Elliott (Michael) of

Bynum Kid passes: Janice Grant Barker (1942–2023) Our sweet mother passed away, peacefully, at the age of 81, on December 4th, 2023, after battling ovarian cancer. Although she lived in Chickasaw, AL for many years, she recently moved to Lillian, AL. Janice was born in Calhoun County, AL in 1942. She is preceeded in death by her parents, Walter C.Grant and Pauline M. Grant; her two siblings, Nadja and Rod; and her husband, Jimmy Barker. Jan spent many years working in the creative field of advertising where she won many awards for her abilities as a typographer. Later, she retired from the Mobile County Revenue Commission. She made many friends through her contacts with the public and was known for her thoroughness and friendly service. Her friends and family will remember her dry sense of humor and quick wit. Although, she lost her husband, Jim, in 1992 to cancer, she never remarried and never stopped loving him. Bynum Kid Passes:Obituary for James Harold Kilgore James Harold Kilgore, age 90 of Eastaboga, passed away on December 25, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.E. and Elsie Kilgore; and sister, Jean Ann Nelson. Mr. Kilgore is survived by his daughter, Melissa O'Brien (Randy); son, Keith Kilgore (Gina); grandchildren, Laura Kilgore, Whitney Layton (Greg), Merissa Pearson (Adam), and Tyler Kilgore; great grandchildren, Ayanna, Dayson, Mela, Connor, Camden, Braxten, Alyssa and Kaitly; great great grandson, Calex; nephew, Randy Nelson (Kim); and niece, Cyndi Smith. He was an Air Force Veteran and retired after many years from the Anniston Army Depot. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

I started first grade in fifty-four. Lived in the apartments in Bynum from fifty-four to fifty-five until Dad got transferred to NC. We lived on the front row of apartments. The Post Office was in sight of our apartment. Little brother named Ralph.

Obituary for Mrs. Joyce 'Ming' Stephens Walker Mrs. Joyce ‘Ming’ Stephens Walker, 90 of Bynum, passed away on April 6, 2023 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children, Mike Walker (Charlene), Alice Thrower (Greg); grandchildren, Mark Walker, Lauren Thrower Johnsey (Josh), Keith Walker (Lindsey); great grandson, Cooper Walker Johnsey, and a host of extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Waverly B. ‘Sam’ Walker, paren+ ts, Charles and Nobie Stephens, and her brothers, Charles Stephens Jr., Larry Stephens. Mrs. Walker owned and operated the Outpost Army Surplus Store in Bynum with her husband for many years. She was also a house wife and loved spending time with her family. Mrs. Walker was a member of Bynum Baptist Church for over 63 years. She taught children’s Sunday School, vacation bible school, and the Sunbeams. She loved her church family dearly. Janet Ellison Kilgore, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Regional Medical Center surrounded by family. Ms. Kilgore is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Helen Ellison; and a daughter, Jeannie Kilgore. She is survived by a daughter, Melissa O'Brien (Randy); son, Keith Kilgore (Gina); granddaughters, Laura Kilgore, Whitney Layton (Greg), and Merissa Pearson (Adam); grandson, Tyler Kilgore; several great grandchildren; and even one great-great grandson; two sisters, Joan Simmons and Roslyn Whatley (Tom); and nieces and nephews who will all miss her terribly. Ms. Kilgore was a devoted Christian and always cherished every moment with her family. She loved going to the beach and to honor her last wishes, Ms. Kilgore's ashes will be scattered at the beach in Savannah. There will be a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Bynum Baptist Church. Anyone who knew and loved Ms. Kilgore is welcome to come honor her memory. n

Obituary for Sandra Jean Wheeler Allen Sandra Jean Wheeler Allen passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Sakura House Hospice in Woodstock, Ontario at the age of 76 following a lengthy illness. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Myrta Wheeler; son, Jimmy, and her brother, Larry. Sandra is survived by her husband, Philip Allen; her children, Michael (Pat), Chuck (Lori), Jerry, Maelynn (Melissa); step son, Christopher; brother, William (Susan), and will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews in the USA and Canada. William "Bill" Felton Chilton, age 86, was born January 17, 1936 and went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. He was a resident of Birmingham, Alabama and a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church. Bill was born and raised in Anniston, Alabama. He went on to graduate from Howard College and Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. He served as pastor of Lincoln Baptist Church in Lincoln, Alabama and then in Evreux, France where he pastored a military church. He also pastored at Bynum Baptist Church, MeadowBrook Baptist Church in Gadsden, Alabama and First Baptist Church of Kettering in Kettering, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne S. Chilton and his brother, Alfred Lee Chilton.
