Comments Nice to see old photographs of my hometown. I would be interested to see pics of the town when Mr. Ray Cahoon had a store, as well as another store called the Jot-em-down Store was in existence. I remember the old bank on the corner, across the street from Pat's station that had an old guillotine behind it. Me, Pam Mason & Sharon Sadler used to ride our bikes back there & look at that huge thing. I wouldn't get up there on the stage and touch it, but Sharon or Pam did. I don't remember which one did it, but I do remember being so afraid that big blade would fall and hurt me. There was even a bucket to catch the heads in. Yuck!!! Mr. Effrin(not sure of the spelling) had a store also & my Uncle Sherwood Smithwick ran an old Esso Station across the street from the courthouse when I was a kid. I am the daughter of Eloise Smithwick Harris & Gilbert Driver Harris. Thanks for the pics, Deborah Harris Cahoon

Comments My Great, Great Grandfather David Cahoon was born in Hyde County, N.C. in 1810. His father was Joseph Alexander Cohoon. David moved to Sumter County, Alabama in 1832 and died there in 1883. Any information on tis familly would be appreciated.

Comments I am behind your efforts 100% but unfortunately my health and eyesight have taken a turn for the worse. I would suggest that you look at Hyde Landmarks which the society published 1-1/2 years ago. This should contain some good info. Also, call Betty Mann and she may be able to point you in the right direction and tell you how our Library is set up. The Library is in the Mattamuskeet Library building and is available during their hours only. Nothing can be taken out - they will make copies for you if necessary. Good Luck!!
