Just started shooting again after a 40 year layoff. Dug out my old Black Hawk recurve bow made by Cravotta Bros. in McKeesport, PA. Took off my sight, stablizer and clicker and decided to try traditional. Haven't gotten the nerve up yet to start shooting competitively again. Shot with my sister, (Diane Sawyer) Miller last weekend at Dorn's Archery Barn in Spartansburg. didn't do very well but most importantly, we had fun. Have never done 3D before and had most trouble with judging distances.

Meadville Traditional Weekend 2015-June 19-21 Hope to see you there. I was honored to see some black and white glossies shared by Darry Buttray from his grandparents Howard and Chick Buttray recently. I was a young boy when some of those pics were snapped. I hope you all get to come out to the trad weekend and enjoy one or both of the two 20 target loops that will be set up by club members. It was only 52 short years ago next month when we had our first competitive shoot on the Inlet Road. Everyone was traditional then and we divided them into freestyle and instinctive w. classes XAA, XA, expert bowman, bowman, archer, and novice. We had 141 shooters at that July 1963 NW regional field archery championship representing the 11 counties in NW PA. In would be ten years before compound bows were legal to hunt with in PA. The state field was hosted by Osage Archery Club New Castle later that summer.

Well the 54th annual Meadville Deer Shoot is Almost here I have only missed 3. 1958,1974, & 2011. Its a magical time of year for bowhunters and we remember some of our dear bros who made this all possible since the club moved to Inlet Rd. from the Ryan Road venue at Meadville Sportsman's club in 1963. Remember Howard & Chick Buttray, Ralph Douglas, Harry Patty, Bud Williams, Miles Miller, Dave Gregg, Rudy Troples, Ed Smock, Mike Mihalso, Charlie Emerick, Bob Laderer, and many others. The biggest Meadville Deer Shoot was in 1959 when we had over 600 shooters from seven states. Biggest shoot in the nation that year except the NFAA Outdoor.Oldest living Meadville Deer Shoot 1961 hamp, George Wagner, from Ambridge, Beaver Co. I saw George shoot at the PA senior games in York, PA July 2009. Well into his 90s. Who says this is not a lifetime sport. If you are fortunate enough to shoot this weekend thank Derry, Ted times 2, Dave and the boys for all their hard work. Its a tradition that has spanned parts of seven decades, And the
