Comments I knew your parents as "Uncle Bill and Aunt Mackie." Your Dad was his own man and held little esteem for the "Hollywood Crowd." He was happiest at his Mojave Desert farm in Rosamond looking after his pigs and living in a house built by a talented inventor. I always enjoyed visiting your home in the Valley, but more fun was had in Rosamond. Your Dad and his old gold miner helper Sparky taught me things about fencing and farming that helped me when I started my dairy farm in Colombia. I still have the shears your Dad gave me over 38 years ago. Memories of going up the mountain to explore old gold mines in your Dad`s military jeep will never fade from my mind.

Comments I am 77 years old or young depending on the time of day. I enjoyed Mr. Witney directing old time serials and Western (Cowboys) movies when I was young had no idea what a director was but he gave me many enjoyable Saturdays afternoons Thanks

Comments This man made movies for the masses of children who went to see westerns and serials in the forties. I never took notice of him but remember the serials he made, the music, the thrills and just something no one gets anymore as a youth at the movies. They were a big part of our entertainment before TV and Mr. Witney did it best.

Comments Name: Reason for your email I would like to submit content Message: When I first met your Dad,it was at the Republic all star festival in Knoxville, in 1994. I believe your mom had just passed. But he came and while he did answer some questions, he didnt like to talk about Don Barry, Allan Lane, or Vera Ralston Particularly if someone was trying to tape him secretly. Then I saw him on the Roy Rogers Happy Trails theater and began to write to him. We both knew Barry Shipman and he became more of a friend than just a celebrity. I kept all of his letters but finally sold the collection to a dealer. He always said "Next time you see me, buy me a drink and I will tell you all about ... That way, it was pretty much off the record. Somebody quoted him about why Republic closed down and he got on Vera Ralston and I think she or the Yates family wrote him a nasty letter.

Comments Message: Dear J.D. Just finished watching SOS Coast Guard on another website. Having already read your Dad's book on this serial, I could appreciate the film even more. Your Mom was a real charmer and I got a boot out of your Dad's story on how they didn't get along at first. Considering the age of the serial, its' reproduction on digital is incredible. I also knew Barry Shipman very well so I could also appreciate his memories on this one. Best Wishes, Mike Newton

Comments I knew your dad quite well. We exchanged letters and I had met him a couple of times. Have his autobiography. We had a mutual friend in Barry Shipman who wrote many of the Republic serial scripts. Always thought that Jack English resembled Walt Disney a bit. Your dad was quite a character and good story teller.

Comments Glad to see this web site. Bill Witney made the movies for me. I'm one of his biggest fans. I liked his movies before I knew who directed them. I had a series of Roy Rogers DVDs that I watched at night while working on the road. I kept seeing his name as director. Then started seeking out his movies and serials, Still "The Adventures of Captain Marvel" is my favorite.Bill was the bes

Comments Just saying 'ello! Message: Jay, Just passed through Lone Pine and visited The Museum again. Nudie’s car was gone but your display was up. Loved this tribute to your dad, what a great man, and a man who filled my childhood with much magical imagery. Besides your dad’s great works, I found it interesting that you had done a website to document his achievements for I have done so with my dad, albeit on a more modest scale. My dad was an architect.

Comments So glad to have found this! I had the wonderful good fortune to meet Mr. Witney at several of the Knoxville, TN film festivals. The two books that he autographed have a treasured spot in my library. My good friend, Dr. Tinsley Yarbrough who wrote a fine book on western filming locations said that Mr. Witney was an always generous source of information on the subject. Good luck as you seek to expand this website. One aside, when I asked Mr. Witney to sign my copy of "Trigger Remembered" to J.H. he said that his son was also known by his initials. I enjoyed all of the stories that he told not only as a guest on the star panels, but even more the stories he told when several of us would be sitting around with no tape recorders or cameras running. He could have held court for hours and I would never have left.
