A message for the family. I have had the privilege and honor of knowing Carol since 1979. The first time that Peggy introduced me to her roommate, Carol gave me the cold shoulder. However her beauty made me want to ask her out. Our first date was the night before the Pope was to arrive in Iowa and appear at Living History Farms. The date lasted a little later that either one of us thought that it would. We said our goodnight's at 4am. At 6am I was at my post providing security for the Popes visit. Somewhere in the crowd of thousands,was Carol. We began to spend a lot of time together following our all-nighter. I soon saw the inner beauty of Carol too. So much so, that I asked her to marry me. Our marriage was blessed with the two best gifts that God could give us, Lindsay Sue and Michael DeVore. She was a great mother to our kids, and even a better grandma. As adults we tend to see the imperfections in others. Not children though. They saw their Grandma Carol as perfect. And now that their grandma is in Heaven, I'm sure that they tell you that she has been p

She always had a smile and a positive outlook on everything. She adored her children and grandchildren so much! Earth lost a bright light, but heaven has a shining star! A message for the family. Such a sweet and beautiful lady!! I cannot picture her without her warm and welcoming smile, and I can still hear the sound of her laugh. Her support of her children's dreams was endless as she searched for the exact shade of tights for a dance routine, taught others in dressing rooms how to apply eye makeup just right, shared umbrellas at soccer games, and cheered until her voice was a hoarse whisper for her child and the teammates they loved on the fields. A selfless mother who minimized her maladies to return attention to her children and their friends. A talented dancer who put her tap shoes away if the class schedules or practice sessions infringed on family time. Lindsay and Michael, I am so sorry for your loss. She will surely do her best to be with you and your families in all things even now. May God hold you in the palm of his hand and bring you peace.
