Comments (1000 character I am very excited about your new Buccaneer website and blog. While my life at a young age seems to be the extreme opposite to yours, I believe that I came to the same conclusion. I have always marched well within the lines and I had good grades in school. My preferred topic was (and still is) math, because I hardly had to study for this. Most of the other stuff I was asked to study in school, I just memorized. Before a test, my mother helped me to prepare by questioning me about specific topics. This questioning was mainly focused on the ability to repeat the study material verbatim. I am not good a learning things by heart. This approach worked well to get good grades until I was 15. By that time the amount of material to learn exceeded the time available to memorize. I finished school when I was 23 only to realize that I have never learned how to study things. Now I know that, for me, the best way to learn is try and fail. I seem to find the experience of failure much more valuable than the experience of success.

Comments (1000 character Hello James and Laura I am really looking forwars to reading lots of interesting things here. I thank you James for recommending so many good books to me. Some of my favorites are "Critical Thinking Tools" , "Thinking and deciding" and of course all of Jerry Weinbergs writing. I am happy to say that my own education is going well and I will do everything I can to be a lifelong learner. Hope you want to give a Buccaneer learning class in Sweden in the future. PSL-class starts in two weeks. The following quotation from Mark Twain fits well here! I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. /Tobbe

No matter how gloomy the economic climate, there will be opportunities for Buccaneer Scholars who are confident and ready. Just the thought of it is liberating, encouraging and challenging. Sign me up for the voyage - may the wind be at our backs! -john

Comments (1000 character James - I have followed your work for some time now and have been impressed with your ability to mercilessly find flaws in software and in the thinking of those who work on it. It's been a pleasure to learn from you and I'm always excited to see a new blog entry of yours that I can learn from. Keep fighting the good fight, it helps the rest of us tremendously. As an aside, your Buccaneer-Scholar homepage has a spelling error in its page title(That being the title shown in the title bar of the browser). The text there reads: "Voyage of a Buccaner-Scholar" with one of the 'e's in Buccaneer missing. I would submit a screenshot but this guest book form does not allow attachments.
