Comments Jack Barrett will live in my memory as an expressionist artist that made me really, truly look at art from a perspective I've never had before. In his paintings, I saw visions and imagination, dreams and connective conscience. I thank God for Jack Barrett's time on earth to bless us with the beauty of his unique and thought-provoking images. His work was so haunting and , to the observer, so incapable of being read. Jack painted a mystery and never-ending story in each of his works, as impressed upon me.

Comments I just learned that one of my earliest influences, and certainly one of my favorite people of all time passed away recently. My "Uncle Jack" died on Sunday at the age of 78. He was truly a one of a kind individual. He was the first and probably the only person I ever met that made a living being a true artist. I first met him when I was maybe 5 years old and he owned a house 4 doors away from me. His wife, Marie and their daughter, Stephanie were friends of my mother and sister's respectively. "Uncle Jack" would talk to me like a friend or equal. He never talked down to me as an adult to a child. He would just TALK to me. I never knew an adult like him. Before or since. Jack was an artiist and I would go into his basement (sometimes sneaking) to get a quick peek on what he was working on at the time. He would always spend the time to explain to me what he was painting. His paintings adorned my dentist's office where my mother worked for many years. I remember looking at his paintings in the waiting room and telling o

Comments I inherited a painting from my grandmother. I had always enjoyed seeing the painting at her house when we visited from California, but the artist was a mystery to me. When I took the painting home to replace the beat-up frame, I found taped on the back a newspaper clipping about the artist, Jack Barrett, being named Florida's Illustrator of the Year in 1975. Grandma had scribbled a note beneath, "1976 - Haiti", the subject of the piece. I only wish I had some inkling of who the artist was before five minutes ago! The gallery on your site showcases a wonderful talent. I'm sorry not to have met the creator of those emotive yet balanced, complex yet simple pieces, along with my beautiful "mystery painting".

Comments I met Jack Barrett when I was a high school student. I wrote him a letter telling him how much I admired his work. He wrote me back and invited me to spend a day with him at the St. Pete Times watching him work etc. He even treated me to lunch in the Time's cafeteria. It was fascinating watching him work (this was before computers) and I got to meet alot of the other artist that day, including Don Addis. A few years later I graduated from college and worked as a Commercial Artist for the Eckerd Corp. I will always treasure that day I spent with Jack. Rest in peace. Comments I used to work at the St. Pete Times, and have a generous portrait that Jack did of me way back in 1983 that I just rediscovered. I really cherish it. He was a kind gentleman.
