Comments I live off of Brownswood road and drive by the plantation every day. I have always wondered what it looked like back there. It was great to finally see this beautiful piece of history. However, it is devastating what big builders such as Portrait homes are doing to the surrounding properties. Keep up the good work Mr. Hauser.

Comments I have spent my morning reading this site. As a teenager in the late 70's/early 80's, I used to drive the loop from my house in West Ashley, across the JI bridge to Maybank, then make the turn onto River Road and then back home. I would always peer down the side entrance road and then the front entrance to try to catch a glimpse of Fenwick. It has always been one of my favorite places. Had I know it was abandoned later, I totally would have trespassed. ;) I commend you on all the work you've done on this site. I can tell it is truly a labor of love for you. Good work!

Comments Thank you for sharing your lovely pictures and research of Fenwickhall Hall. John Henry Townsend (1840-1917) was my great-great grandfather. In 2002 my dad and first cousins and families gathered in Charleston for a reunion and were able to tour Fenwick Hall. I love how the home has been restored and cared for!

Comments Hi I bought an old backgammon board today. He told me it came from FENWICK CASTLE JOHN'S ISLAND. It has a pitcher of the house inside. Very elaberately inlayed with wood. there must be 800 thousand peaces. just looking it up to see what i can find out about the place.
