Comments I was born in decherd.my mama and daddy are hop berryhill and Gladys penny berryhill.who ever did the history did a beautiful job.thank you for the memories. I recognized so many old family names.my mamas parents are ed penny and Maryann walls penny my daddy's are hop berryhill and magie partin berryhill.I have a lot of family there .the last time I was home it was the same decherd I remember as a child.peaceful and friendly community. Comments My father's grandparents, the David Tuckers, were early residents of Decherd. My grandmother Marjorie Tucker Bass, attended the Terrill College and played the violin. She married and moved to Atlanta. The Tuckers were Presbyterians and they lived in a large white house on the corner of Tucker St. They are buried in the city cemetery there. I was hoping to find the grave of Mary Golden Tucker's father, John Golden who died prior to the 1860 census. His wife, the mother of his 3 children, remarried. She, Sarah, and her 2nd husband Valentine Woll are buried there in the city cemetery. If someone reads this, will you please look and see if you see John Golden's grave in the Decherd Cemetery. I will be most appreciative.Are there any books on the history of Decherd? Are there ever any historical editions of a local newspaper? I might have a picture or two to share.

I know that at one time Decherd Depot had 8 passenger trains stopping at Decherd and that a Hotel was built to accommodate the travelers. Comments Lived in Dechard in the late forties and early fifties! Back then a young boy could wonder the entire town, go skinnie dipping in the creek, and explore the woods without being molested, shot, or picked up and held for ransom. Comments I am thinking of making a petintion concerning a skatepark in decherd or winchester because decherd banned skateboarding and skateboarding is a sport and should be used fluently and it's very fun.It is also a sport wich many people do.So i'm trying to see how many sighners I would need for this to even get thaught of I know i have at least 200-250 people who is willing to sighn this petention already.So PLEASE take into consideration for this idea.
