I met Mindus for the first time while connecting with about 8 of the wonderful women you see here as her friends. It was a magical time in all of our lives for many reasons, but the spark I felt when I first saw her and the pizzazz! she bought to every moment, every gathering, was momentous. No party was quite as much fun without her. No quiet conversation about the meaning of life quite as salient, no joke, no laugh, no smile or hug was as fun, as funny, as sweet or as warm as it was when Mindy was there. We called her ‘Mindus Maximus’ because she was. She was the Maximus… the perfect extension of all our gaiety, the best side of our friendship, our love for each other. She was never too caught up in her own drama to forget to care for me or to encourage me or show me her affection. I tried to do the same for her. Min was the exemplification of a great English saying, ‘Never say die!’ which obviously means, fight to the finish! You never know what might happen and you just might squeak through. Oh WOW!!! Where do I begin? Right away I smile (or I'm "cheezin" as my kids tell me) remembering Min picking up my 22 yr. old husband in her arms with his arms around her neck and about six of us on the ground dying of pains from laughing so hard and so long while we all walked the Point Pinole Parkway out to the Bay. I was Min's adopted little sister (in Cali) in those days...Rex was always in the picture then too...that's when Min & I never spoke again was after we had his memorial service together...Anyhow, happy memories are here to stay and I have photos of plenty of happy times! Did you know she is my 1st daughters God-Mom?!* My favorite memories will be of her with all the kids when she'd make the farm animal sounds that were so AWESOME!!! Remember??? she was hilarious even when she talked to her houseplants!!!Or when she tried to copy a foriegn language we'd all be amazed!!! I know I'm in SHOCK and can't write through my tears...

Continued from my first entry.. and Mindis was in private investigation. Here are some Highlights of those years... Mindis impressed me w/ her knowlege of horticulture. She could name every flower & plant by its Latin name! She took on a truck driving job one summer. We took a memorable road trip one Christmastime and sung songs on the radio. She sung beautifully and I being tone deaf wanted to give up, but she made me sing anyway! She once predicted I would marry a nice young man and have 2.5 kids. I married a year later to my husband Steve of almost 22 years and we have three children. We have lived in Colorado since 1996, so Mindis & I drifted apart (at least in miles,never in spirt!). We live on a small horse ranch in Black Forest, CO with a view of Pike's Peak. Mindis never saw it, but wanted to visit. She just got too sick. I am glad I visited with her in 2007. Dear old friend...Where do I begin? Mindis & I met 25 years ago! There's not much more I can add to these pages, but can concur without a doubt, that you had us all laughing, crying, loving and living Girlfriend! When we first met, I too felt that immediate connection with her. That magnetic charisma, fun-loving nature, intelligence, imaginatation and beauty were just some of her wonderful attributes. Yes, life with Mindis was never dull! Conversations were the high-lights of one's day! She always seemed to "make a moment" for everyone; as she put others before herself! If there is anyone who lived life, Mindis sure did! Minis knew everyone. She knew my family in Pinole, CA & always had a way of capturing the funniest moments about people & being able to retell those moments in such a way, it just "brought you home!" I'll never forget our younger years (late 20's/30's) in the East Bay. We made so many transformations during those years, helping each other through the good & bad times! I was in Law Enforcement

Mindi was my cousin. I have not seen her for some time and reading the Memories that others wrote completed what I thought she was! It is hard for me to say, I wish I had gotten intouch with her. We always put these things off in our busy lives! Mindi you have shown me one more thing! Never wait until tommorrow! I will Miss you!

Mindi had me at hello. I was blessed the day that I met Mindi...our first hour together was the day that she walked into the salon and need a shampoo/style. She told me her experiences with breast cancer, and how her hair had come back with all these great curls...well, I thought they were great...she didn't. We laughed and cried in that first hour together. Amanda and I went on to share Mindi as a friend and client...both of us love her. Her warm eyes and beautiful smile. We had a blast celebrating her birthday with cupcakes and fancy sparkling orange beverages. We will truly miss her reflection in our mirrors, and wish we could have been there to celebrate her life. One thing Mindi would always say while sitting in our chairs..."i am happy. i am healthy. i am cancer free." I'm so happy for her that this is now true... We love you, Mindi.

I had the pleasure of doing Mindi's hair. From the very moment I met her I knew she was special. Besides being one of the funniest, bubbliest, good natured people, she also was smart, caring and extremely patient. In fact, I turned her hair purple the last time I had seen her! All she did was laugh, hug me and she was off. In the face of death she put others before her and remained positive, as if she were only fighting off a cold. She amazed me. We had long conversations about anger, grief, living, loving and dying. If it were me I would have been curled up in the fetal position, while she invisioned a healthy, cancer free being. You couldn't help but feel the intensity of her words, their healing powers, their energy. She was candid in the most genuine way, I felt I had known her for a lifetime. My family has been close friends of Mindis' family for many years. My sister Deb grew up with Mindis, Bix and Rex and I grew up with Lesa. The love and support shared between the two families has sustained all through many hard times, and the laughter will always ring out loud!

I met Mindis a few years ago when she sat next to me on a flight from Eugene to the Bay Area. We were both going to San Rafael, so we ended up car pooling. We hd a great time swapping stories and laughing. She was a special lady and I'm glad I met her. I'm very sorry to hear that she passed away.

We met playing basketball at the Mt Tam Racquet club.I guarded her that evening, and when, by chance, we touched during the game, the electricity was incredibly memorable for both of us.I think we both knew at that momment that our destiny was to become bound together as lovers and friends.Truly it was a love at first sight story. As time passed,day after day we spent hours just talking and joking about anything and everything as our sense of humor seemed cut from the same mold.We loved travel, people, music and though we were both strong and independent people, often disagreeing about mostly life's little things, we came to realize that we never could be apart, not while in this world. Just this year in March, I was fortunate enough to get to spend some time with Min in Oregon. We drove her motor home to beach and laughed until we had tears in our eyes more than once. Mindis was one of the strongest women I have ever met and she will be missed.

My beautiful friend -- even more beautiful within than without. The memories -- where I you start? Our times with the horses -- whether we were riding, clearing manure, fixing fences, clearing trails, it was always fun. If there were chores to be done, Mindis was there. She rode beautifully - she made up songs to sing to my horses -- "Sonny's a good ole boy, a good ole boy," etc., etc. I will never hear music without thinking of Mindis. I never got to go fishing with her - Dang! How she loved her friends - and there were so many. Will I ever really accept that she's gone? I don't think so. It is just totally unacceptable. It is a sad heart that I write this...first for the loss of a such a wonderfully happy and uplifting friend, and for my inability to see everyone at Mindus Maximus' service. I think I speak for all of Min's friends when I say she had an incredibly warm infectious smile and personality that instantly put everyone at ease and encouraged everyone to do some the craziest things we've ever done!
